Rede Aberta, a company specialized in the construction of neutral fiber optic networks, has reached an agreement with the Council of Mazaricos (A Coruña) to connect 549 real estate units with ultrafast Internet connection, which represents more than 28% of the homes registered in the municipality.
The agreement signed with the Mayor of Mazaricos, Juan José Blanco Riveiro, establishes that the Concello will share with Rede Aberta the electrical infrastructures of municipal ownership in order to carry out the deployment of the fiber optic cabling. In this way, it contributes to accelerate the process for the connection of the planned real estate units, reduce unnecessary and redundant works and minimize the environmental impact. Rede Aberta will start in the coming weeks the deployment plan that foresees the installation of the 549 real estate units before the end of 2023, which will facilitate the internet connection to the residents of rural parishes. According to data from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (July 2021), only 38% of the homes in Mazaricos had a fiber optic connection with a symmetrical speed higher than 100 Mbps. With the deployment planned by Rede Aberta (549 uu.ii.), more than 66% of the homes will be reached before the end of 2023. Once the fiber optic installation is completed, in order to have internet access, users will have to contract the connection with local telecommunications operators.
Rede Aberta has agreements with the operators 7Play, A Túa Xanela, Aúrea Telecom, Evoa, IT Sarria, Itegal, Juifi, Planeta Voz, Eume Telecom, Grelo, Oteuoperador, Pizpireta Telecom or Toxo Telecom. This action is part of the development forecasts of the UNICO plan of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation for the province of A Coruña.
Rede Aberta, winner of the tender for the province of A Coruña, plans to bring high-capacity fiber optics to 36,556 homes in rural areas.
In the A Costa da Morte area – made up of the regions of Bergantiños, Soneira, Xallas and Fisterra -, in recent months, Rede Aberta has deployed fibre optics in the Bértoa industrial estate (Carballo) and installed more than 24,000 housing units with access to homes in 11 municipalities, such as Malpica (4,028 uu.ii), Laxe (2,000), Ponteceso (2,342), Vimianzo (3,000) and another 6,500 in Cee and Corcubión.
